From the director of Mr Burton, comes a raw, no-nonsense blast of social realism set in the picturesque valleys of north Wales. The working-class heroine, played by Leisa Gwenllian, is a force of nature facing a gruelling ordeal within a failing health care system. It ends on a note of hard-won resilience carried along by a lead performance as rugged and elemental as the Welsh landscape itself. Marc Evans’ big-screen version of Gary Owen’s one-woman play had the biggest opening weekend of any Welsh-language film.
