Almodovar's latest release stars Penélope Cruz and Milena Smit as two single women, Janis and Ana, who meet in a hospital room where they are both going to give birth. One is middle aged and doesn't regret it, while the other is adolescent and scared. The two women form a strong mutual bond as they both confront motherhood. Terrific performances from both performers with Cruz winning Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival and as well as an Oscar nomination.
