Terence Davies's outstanding new movie, acted with great sweetness and delicacy, is an impressionistic adaptation of Rattigan's play. The young wife of a dull High Court judge falls passionately for a hard-drinking former RAF pilot, but she finds he is more in love with his own heroic past.
