Dave Turner, who worked with veteran British director Ken Loach on his last two films, I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You, plays the landlord of the last remaining pub, The Old Oak, in a village in County Durham. After 30 years of decline due to the closure of the mines, the future of the pub is endangered even more by the sudden arrival in the village of Syrian refugees. The third part of the trilogy, written by Loach’s long-time collaborator, Paul Laverty, is gentler then the previous two but, as Time Out said: “If this is the end of the road for a British film-making great, it’s a thoughtful, heart-filled finale. British cinema’s old oak still stands tall”
