Monica Dolan, one of the stars of the ITV series Mr Bates vs. the Post Office, gives a memorable performance as the forgotten English artist Audrey Amiss whose extensive archive of diaries, letters and art inspired this dark and funny docudrama from writer/director Carol Morley (The Falling, Dreams of a Life). The director chooses to turn this wealth of material on the artist’s bizarre life into an imagined road-trip with Audrey and her psychiatric nurse, played by Kelly Macdonald.
